Los Angeles Galaxy target forward Alan Gordon is making a habit as a super sub. Last Saturday’s goal from Gordon against FC Dallas was enough for the Galaxy to prevail in a 2-1 come-from-behind victory. Every one of Gordon’s goals has allowed the Galaxy either pull level or take the lead. He has become the real deal.
“There wasn’t much for me to do,” said Gordon to LAGalaxy.com’s Adam Serrano. “That was a pretty good ball. I just got my head on it, trying to be in the right places is the most important thing because I know that there’s a lot of guys that can deliver those balls on the field and I think that has been the biggest difference.”
“He puts himself in good spots. He works hard, he does the right things and when you do that, good things happen. He has learned over the years how to play as a substitute,” said midfielder Landon Donovan. “It’s not easy, a lot of guys come into games and they are not ready, and that says a lot about his professionalism, his mentality when he is seating on the bench for 60 minutes and he is ready to come in right away and it makes a big difference.”
“He’s a good target player,” manager Bruce Arena said. “He’s good in the penalty area. If the service is right, he’s quite capable of finishing off plays, which he’s shown. He knows his job. He’s an experienced player. Understands tactically what needs to be done at the end of the game, and has just done an outstanding job.”
“Of course, that’s my job and I’m getting ready,” Gordon added. “That’s all I’m focused on. Anytime I watch a game, I’m watching the forwards’ and defenders’ tendencies, if there are any holes being open, you just try and observe the game and see little things that you can take advantage of.”
Meanwhile, the Galaxy hosted a golf tournament at the Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. in honor of the LA Galaxy Foundation.

“I loved it. Any time that you get on the links is a quality time for me. To get away from soccer and all the stresses is brilliant. I enjoy every minute of it,” Alan Gordon told Serrano. “It’s a chance to get to know our sponsors, the rest of the guys, and other people who are putting money to what we do. Everyone cares about us and it’s all good.”
“It was fun. We had a great time,” said Los Angeles right back Dan Gargan. “I got to play with some great guys who were fantastic golfers. We put forth a good performance even though I’ve never been much of golfer before this, after this or during this, but I look doing it so hopefully they keep inviting me back.”
Los Angeles return to action on Sept. 28 at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. when they host the New York Red Bulls. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. PT/8:30 p.m. ET and will be televised by ESPN2, WatchESPN, ESPN Deportes and TSN2.
