Tonight at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., two teams on downward spirals are looking to get right and turn their fortunes around. Wilmer Cabrera’s Chivas USA are on a slump and it doesn’t look like there will be a light at the end of the tunnel. Peter Vermes’s Sporting Kansas City, believe it or not, are second in the MLS Eastern Conference, but they’ve gone ice cold as well as of late. Don’t you thing something’s got to give. We here at the MLS Multiplex say, yes, something’s gotta give.
Kickoff at the Hub is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT/10:30 p.m. ET and will be televised by MLS LIVE. Here are 10 Bold Predictions for tonight’s contest between Chivas USA and Sporting Kansas City.
1. At least 40 fouls, under five cards
We got some fast and fluid action tonight at StubHub, in front of yet another sparse crowd. You gotta give credit to the loyal fans who are still filling up the stadium, even though the situation is already dire. The Plex will call for at least 40 fouls whistled and under five cards issued.
2. No goals for Chivas USA
With Erick Torres no longer in the lineup for Chivas USA for the next two games, Chivas USA are going to have a tough time finding anybody that can score goals. Chivas are boldly predicted to go scoreless against Sporting Kansas City.
3. At least five saves for Dan Kennedy
Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy is the only bright spot for his club, outside of El Cubo. Kennedy is set to have another rough outing, with at least five saves to his credit.
4. Under five saves for Andy Gruenebaum
Andy Gruenebaum has also struggled between the pipes for Sporting Kansas City but this time, he should, at least on paper, have a easier time handling one of the worst attacks in the league. We say that because the Plex boldly predicts under five saves for AG against CUSA at the SHC.
5. Dom Dwyer with a brace
As long as England gets their filthy hands off Dominic Dwyer and Dwyer himself completes his US citizenship red tape, Jurgen Klinsmann has another reliable scoring option come the next World Cup cycle. This season, Dwyer has 18 goals and he will crack the 20-goal mark tonight against Chivas USA. Let’s try…a goal in each half.
6. Benny Feilhaber with a goal and an assist

This season, Benny Feilhaber has three goals and six assists and is due to round back into form. The MLS Multiplex is calling for a goal and an assist to Feilhaber in what is expected to be…a rout.
7. Also with a goal and an assist…Graham Zusi
Mexican soccer fans refer to him as “San Zusi” for his saving grace that kept Mexico alive in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. No divine intervention will be needed from Graham Zusi, because Chivas are a team of no-hopers. At least, that’s what we argue. Aside from that, we’re calling a goal and an assist from Zusi.
8. Heeeeeeeere’s…Toni!
Antonio “Toni” Dovale hasn’t had a season to remember with Sporting Kansas City, but against Chivas USA, conventional wisdom suggest that he will score at least once in this match. We want to stress this one more time: this is a match asking for a Sporting Kansas City blowout and we’re calling the shots and dropping it like it’s hot. Toni’s catching the heat and will ignite Sporting Kansas City with another.
9. No goals for C.J. Sapong
C.J. Sapong won’t really be needed in this game, as, let’s keep this in mind, this is CHivas USA the boys from Sporting Kansas City are facing. There will be no goals from C.J. Sapong, or assists, but some minutes off the bench? Yeah, we’re calling for that. Also known as “garbage time,” for you sports lingo acolytes.
10. Sporting crush Chivas USA in the shade
This is a no-win situation for Chivas USA, espcially with Torres still out for this game and the match with Toronto on Sept. 21. As for Sporting Kansas City, they need this result to build confidence and prove to themselves that they can build some stream and turn things around this late in the regular season.
Sporting Kansas City 5, Chivas USA 0
