After a tough 3-0 defeat to the Colorado Rapids, Wilmer Cabrera’s Chivas USA are looking to get back into form when they host Oscar Pareja’s FC Dallas at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. on Aug. 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET and will be televised by MLS LIVE. With a record of 6-9-5 (23 points), Chivas USA are clearly off the pace and need a big win at home to stay alive in the hunt.
“I’m disappointed about some players’ mentality, especially some guys that had the chance to play, the possibility to step up on the field,” Cabrera told cdchivasusa.com’s Olivia Cervantes last Friday. “The first thing that you do in these types of games is be well prepared with the right tools and some players went on the field with cleats that they’re not good for this weather and these conditions. They were slipping and that costs us a goal.
“At least we have 10 days for the next game and now we have to continue working to try to recover the other guys, to try to bring the team healthier and to continue learning the lessons with the young guys and the players that played today. Hopefully they can take this lesson and use for the future for the rest of their professional career.”
“We are a team and beyond who plays, we have to be ready to have the correct performance,” said midfielder Agustin Pelletieri to cdchivasusa.com’s Pablo Lancaster Jones. “There are no excuses. Today we were the eleven that were there and we were there for a reason, because we were the ones that were in the best condition to play today and these are opportunities that come and you have to seize them.
“Just like when we win, we can’t spend much time in the victory, and this is a similar case. When you lose, the next game is the most important and for us it’s like that, because if we win, we would continue to be close and with a good amount of points. The team can achieve more, but we need to improve.”
Oswaldo Minda, Marvin Chavez and Mauro Rosales did not play against Colorado due to injuries but should be in the starting XI this Sunday against FC Dallas.
“At this moment, we are optimistic. We think they are going to be ready,” said Cabrera to cdchivasusa.com’s Cristina Maillo. “They have a great mentality and we still have a few days until Sunday to make sure everyone in our locker room is in his best form tactically, physically and mentally.
“We have been watching video and reviewing the game we played this past weekend. We didn’t play very well, especially during the first half. We need to make sure we learn from our mistakes from last week, at the same time we prepare ourselves to face this new challenge at home.”
