Central Midfield: Jeff Larentowicz, Chicago Fire

Playing in the Fire’s three man central midfield behind attackers Harry Shipp, Quincy Amarikwa, and Mike Magee, Fire veteran Jeff Larentowicz key play helped set up an early goal that eventually was the winner thanks to a timely defensive play.

Intercepting a Revolution pass early on in the match, Larentowicz used his experience to spring a wide open Magee who then sent Amarikwa a long ball into the box that found the feet of the pacy striker who made no mistake in slotting home a third minute goal that shocked the hosts in New England.

Following the early marker, Larentowicz continued to put in a strong effort in the win, adding three blocks in front of the Fire box to his name defensively in addition to a couple more important interceptions and tackles after being the catalyst in the early goahead goal for Chicago.

Offensively, the left sided central mid for Chicago made 16 successful passes, none more important than the pass to Magee off the interception in midfield that set everything up in what was a massive victory for the Fire. All in a days work for a midfielder that Frank Yallop loves to have in the Chicago lineup.
