Holding down the left back spot on the Week 18 Team of the Week is Chicago Fire fullback Gonzalo Segares, who put in a workmanlike performance in the Fire’s 1-0 victory over New England following their midweek victory over the Atlanta Silverbacks in US Open Cup play in what was a successful and busy week for the Fire.

Segares, a veteran out of Costa Rica, filled his stat sheet on Saturday as the left back of the Fire was put to work by the Revs attack early and often. Luckily for Chicago and Fire manager Frank Yallop, Segares answered the bell whenever the Revs attack came his way to help preserve the clean sheet in what was a big victory for a club that is looking to make its way back into the Eastern Conference playoff picture in July.

Showing a knowledge of where the Revolution attackers were going to pass the ball, Segares made seven interceptions of New England passes from the left defensive flank in addition to three tackles and plenty of clearances. Ensuring that New England didn’t expose the left wing, Segares was a crucial factor in the victory for the Chicago Fire defensively which was good enough to earn him a spot on the Team of the Week.
