While Arsenal legend Thierry Henry was delighting fans in New York with three assists and a goal, former Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe was flexing his muscles North of the US border by completing a Toronto FC comeback with a second half brace that continued a 2014 that surely will lead to some second guessing in England about whether or not Roy Hodgson should have brought the biggest 2014 signing in MLS to Brazil as part of the England roster.

Running through the entire Dynamo back line across the box before slotting home a perfectly placed shot to beat keeper Tally Hall for the third goal of TFC’s comeback against the Dynamo, it was hard not to think that Defoe is still one of England’s best strikers as the goals continue to pile up in his debut season in North America.

Scoring a second insurance goal at the death, Defoe’s second half brace not only kept TFC climbing the table it also gave the striker his 10th league goal in 12 matches. If there were any questions about how Defoe would play following his England omission those questions have been answered as we are finding out that Defoe will be set on proving his home country wrong in keeping him off the roster following his transfer out of Tottenham by scoring and winning as many matches as possible. Something that bodes well for both Toronto supporters and MLS supporters alike as Defoe continues to show his quality for TFC match in and match out.
