Per usual, this past weekend did not disappoint in the goal scoring department as this week’s goal of the week candidates features some cracking strikes.

This week has everything from well-hit volleys to picture perfect passing sequences. Here are the best goals from week five in the MLS.

Tommy McNamara (New York City FC)

The San Jose Earthquakes are punished for their turnover in the midfield as Ronald Matarrita and David Villa link up with McNamara for the match-winning goal. This was the first goal of the season for the midfielder.

Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla (Montreal Impact)

A well-placed shot from Tabla puts the Impact up momentarily against the Chicago Fire. Patrice Bernier picks up the assist on the goal.

Luis Solignac (Chicago Fire)

The Fire grabbed a late equaliser against the Impact courtesy of Solignac’s fantastic shot from just outside the 18. Dax McCarthy was the provider of the assist.

Christian Ramirez (Minnesota United)

A lovely pass from Kevin Molino sends Ramirez in alone and the striker produces a brilliant finish. The California native has scored four goals in five appearances.

Matias Laba (Vancouver Whitecaps)

This was the first of two goals for Laba against the LA Galaxy as the Argentine nets the match-winner for the Whitecaps.

Diego Valeri (Portland Timbers)

Volleys don’t get much better than this as Valeri produces a world class finish for the Timbers. The playmaker has scored five goals in his last five appearances.

Erick “Cubo” Torres (Houston Dynamo)

It’s been a fantastic start to the season for Torres, scoring six goals in four appearances for the Dynamo. He completes the hat-trick against the New York Red Bulls with this free-kick.

Week five winner

Drumroll…..okay it’s Valeri. His volley was a thing of beauty and it was hard to dethrone him this week as it was one of the best goals of the season thus far.
