Chivas USA vs. Vancouver Whitecaps: 10 Bold Predictions

Fresh off a 2-0 statement victory over Sporting Kansas City at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, B.C., Carl Robinson’s Vancouver Whitecaps venture south to StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. to take on Wilmer Cabrera’s Chivas USA on Saturday, Aug. 16. The Whitecaps are fifth in the MLS Western Conference with a record of 7-4-11 (32 points) while Chivas are 6-11-5 (23 points), good for last place in the West.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT/10:30 p.m. ET and will be televised by MLS LIVE and TSN. Here are 10 Bold Predictions for Saturday’s match between Chivas USA and the Vancouver Whitecaps.

1. Under 50 fouls, at least three cards

The Vancouver Whitecaps have more to lose from this match and will come out with a physical game against Chivas USA, who are battling to save their season of transition. The MLS Multiplex is boldly predicting for under 50 fouls whistled and at least three cards issued.

2. Under five saves for Dan Kennedy

Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy will have a tough go at things against Vancouver and will make just a handful of saves to show for it. The Plex calls for under five saves from Kennedy, who has 56 saves this season for Chivas.

3. Under five saves from David Ousted

On the other hand, Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted will also have a quiet game because of the Caps pressing the ball with pace. Thus, the MLS Multiplex is boldly predicting for under five saves from Ousted, who has 58 saves this season.

4. No goals for Chivas USA

This is going to be a match that Chivas USA, and the few thousand supporters who do come out for the games, will want to forget. There will be no goals on Saturday for the Goats against Vancouver.

5. Pedro Morales to score for Vancouver

One of a number of goalscorers to finish the job for the Vancouver Whitecaps is Pedro Morales, who has seven goals this season for the Caps. Watch for Morales to get on the scoresheet in the first half.

6. Here comes Darren Mattocks

This year, Darren Mattocks has six goals and three assists for the Vancouver Whitecaps. The MLS Multiplex is calling for Mattocks to strike late in the first half against Chivas USA.

7. Kekuta Manneh on goal for Vancouver

Kekuta Manneh hasn’t been finding the back of the net this season for the whitecaps, with just three goals to show for it. However, he can shoot, and Manneh will come out firing and deliver in the second half.

8. Eric Hurtado with a goal and an assist

Eric Hurtado is Vancouver’s third-leading goalscorer, with four goals and two assists this season. His playmaking versatility will be on display on Saturday as Hurtado records a goal and an assist to lead the Whitecaps.

9. Russell Teibert with two assists

Russell Teibert won’t get on the scoresheet, but he will be credit with being a solid provider in what should be a one-sided affair. The MLS Multiplex calls for Teibert to record two assists against Chivas USA.

10. An easy win for Vancouver Whitecaps over Chivas USA

Chivas USA are in a slump, and on Saturday, expect that slump to continue. In one of the more complete outings of the season from Carl Robinson’s Vancouver Whitecaps, they finish the Goats off early and often. It can’t get any easier than this.
