2. A defensive spine

Daniel Lovitz, Dave Romney, Walker Zimmerman, and Alistair Johnston have started together every game in MLS this season. Lovitz was forced to depart early in only one match, which means that for all but about 40 minutes of the season, these four have become intimately accustomed to each other. And that certainly translates to the unit’s production on the field.

Nashville is 10th in tackles, eighth in blocked on-target shots, and one of only four MLS teams yet to make a defensive error that leads to a goal. These four players have made Nashville a formidable defensive power, which particularly matters when the goals are so slow to come.
