On Sunday, Minnesota United will play their first-ever playoff match against the LA Galaxy at Allianz Field. Here is the Loons’ projected starting XI.

Well, after two dreadful years as a lowly expansion team and one vastly improved breakthrough season, the moment all Minnesota United fans have been waiting for is finally here: the MLS playoffs loom for the Loons.

More than that, however, Minnesota actually host their first-ever playoff match, welcoming the Los Angeles Galaxy to Allianz Field on Sunday night. What a curtain-raiser it will be for a stadium that only opened earlier this season.

Goalkeeper

Vito Mannone – Italian Vito Mannone is one of the finalists for the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Award, alongside Bill Hamid and Sean Johnson. That is no mistake. Mannone has been one of the league’s best shot-stoppers this season, helping Minnesota United to 11 clean sheets on the season. Against a vibrant Galaxy attack, Mannone will need to come up big again if the Loons are to advance.
