New York City FC and the LA Galaxy, both week one winners, square off in week two. Here are five key players for NYCFC to take home three points again.

New York City FC had high hopes coming into the year, as they have improved every single year since their inception. Finishing second last year, it was going to be an uphill battle to continue that trend.

They did all they could in week one, though, as New York City FC started their 2018 campaign victoriously. With goals from Maxi Moralez and debutante Jesus Medina, the boys in blue exited Kanas City with three points. The Eastern Conference side will face a challenge defensively, missing Maxime Chanot who was shown a red card after a VAR review on Sunday.

In impressive fashion, last years wooden spoon winners LA Galaxy also earned three points against fellow Western Conference side, Portland Timbers. Newly acquired Ola Kamara opened the game’s scoring followed by another from Romain Alessandrini just minutes later. Luckily for the boys in blue, Alessandrini will miss Sunday’s game through injury however Kamara will still provide a threat up top.

5. Alexander Ring

The rock in New York City FC’s midfield, Alexander Ring, played a big part in the Pigeon’s 2-0 victory over Sporting KC on Sunday. City showed their talent defensively and Ring contributed substantially to it. The Finn had several clearances and tackles and helped the boys in blue start their attack.

With the threatening attack LA Galaxy contains, the 26 year-old will be relied on to help NYC walk away with all three points. The likes of Jonathan and Giovanni dos Santos in the midfield will keep Ring occupied for the entire 90 minutes.
