Michael Essien & Samuel Eto’o Linked With Moves To America

On Tuesday, reports surfaced that both Michael Essien and Samuel Eto’o who are currently plying their trade in the Italian top flight, could be on their way to the United States. Milan’s Essien has been linked with a move to FC Dallas in the past, but most recent speculation has him reuniting with former Milan teammate, Kaka at Orlando. While in the case of Sampdoria’s Eto’o, there is talk of a sensational bid from the New York Cosmos to try and lure the Cameroon international to the North American Soccer League.

Essien appears to be heading out the door at Milan when the current campaign comes to an end and rumors continue to run rampant as to where the Ghanaian international will end up next season. The midfielder’s agent, Fabrizio Ferrari spoke to Sky Sport about his client’s situation and left the possibility for a move to Major League Soccer and Orlando wide open.

“We have yet to receive a satisfying offer, we’re looking for offers for next season. Orlando? You never know. MLS is very interesting, should off&s arrive we’ll consider them”

While Essien has been with Milan since last January, Eto’o just officially joined Sampdoria on January 27th. However, after walking out on a training session Monday, there have already been rumors circulating that Eto’o wants to leave the club.

According to a recent report on Football-Italia, Eto’o has options in both the United States and China. The article suggests that the New York Cosmos are looking to bring in Eto’o to try and garner more attention for the club who has already brought in the likes of Marcos Senna and Raul. Along with the Cosmos, Chinese Super League side, Shanghai East Asia are also said to be interested in the striker.

Essien playing in Major League Soccer seems a lot more plausible than Eto’o moving to the NASL for a variety of reasons, including the fact that Eto’o arrived at Sampdoria just a few days ago. However, it’ll be interesting to see which MLS side does secure Essien’s services if he decides to make the move across the pond.

Orlando would certainly be a good fit for the player and considering the team still have one of their Designated Player spots available, they could use it to sign the 32-year-old. Also, the fact that Essien has already played with the club’s superstar, Kaka in the past, makes the possibility of a move all the more likely.
