Sometimes it is easy to forget exactly how amazing French legend Thierry Henry is at producing offensive greatness with the ability that made him a superstar both at the club and international level with France, Arsenal, and FC Barcelona, but when Henry turns back the clock you remember that brilliance very quickly.
Saturday in New York was one of those days, when a visibly angered Henry took exception to the way the Columbus Crew defenders were playing and decided to show his opponent’s exactly who they were messing with early and often to the delight of the Red Bulls supporters who got to witness a vintage Henry performance.
One goal and three assists was the box score for Henry when the dust was settled, setting up three goals from his teammates and scoring a ho hum rebound tap in to the far corner as the Crew had no answer for one of the greatest forwards of a generation on Saturday in New York.
As stated before, Henry’s greatness may be waning to the point where supporters have stopped expecting total dominance from the 36 year old in ever match. Perhaps that is because of motivation issues during a long MLS season where Henry can save his attentions for the second half of the season, but when Henry is at his best he is still one of the most amazing players in not only Major League Soccer but also the world as even at the advanced age of 36 he can still take over a match individually. Something most footballers only dream of doing at his age. If you haven’t seen Henry’s Saturday performance, go back and watch what the French legend still has in the tank. You won’t regret it.
