Boca Juniors star Emanuel Reynoso has been linked with a possible move to Minnesota United in the summer transfer window. He can put the Loons over the top.

Summer signings appear ready to roll into Minnesota during the upcoming transfer window. Minnesota United have their sights set on improving the roster in the coming weeks to help aid their ambitions of reaching the postseason in 2020.

Just this week, manager Adrian Heath indicated the club is looking at bringing in not one but possibly multiple players in an interview with ESPN:

"“We have three roster spots to fill, a couple of Designated Player positions. If things cropped up where we thought we could do something, we would still do something.”"

One of the players who seems just about ready to join Minnesota United is Boca Juniors star, Emanuel Reynoso. The 24-year-old is an attacking midfielder for the Argentine club and has played for Boca Juniors since arriving in January of 2018.

TyC Sports reports that a deal is nearing between the two clubs. This is not the first time Minnesota have seriously considering signing Reynoso. During the recent winter transfer window, there was significant interest in reaching a deal to sign Reynoso but it did not come to fruition.

Heath confirmed the interest in getting this deal done this summer in his interview with ESPN:

"“[The Reynoso deal], it’s still ongoing. I think it’s one of them things that everybody knows we were really interested. We were very close at one stage and then all this has come, but it is something that’s still ongoing.”"

Reynoso has seen regular appearances for Boca Juniors during his time with the South American giants. During the 2019/20 season, he made 18 Superliga appearances and an additional nine appearances in the Copa Libertadores.

As previously mentioned, Reynoso made the majority of his appearances playing as an attacking midfielder during his career. However, he has made a number of appearances playingg on the left-wing as well. More recently, that is where he has featured for Boca Juniors.

This is a signing that can really benefit Minnesota as they attempt to make it back-to-back appearances in the MLS Playoffs for the first time in club history. After making their first appearance in the playoffs in 2019, Minnesota are certainly capable of reaching the postseason again and making it past the first round.

Reynoso’s experience playing for a high-caliber club should give Minnesota a huge boost offensively. The team is stacked defensively, with 2019 Defender of the Year Ike Opara anchoring the backline, while Jan Gregus and Ozzie Alonso form one of the most destructive midfield pairings in the league. Where Minnesota is lacking, however, is in that elite attacking department.

Luis Amarilla was a shrewd addition in the offseason but they are yet to replace the departure of Darwin Quintero, who provided an electric spark as a central attacking midfielder. The addition of Reynoso would help alleviate the departure of Quintero.

Minnesota are ready to go all-in for Reynoso and rightly so. He is a signing that can help put an already competitive team over the top, and in a tightly fought MLS, that can make all the difference.
