With some USMNT players stuck in Germany, Weston McKennie is letting everyone know he is here to help.

We are living in historical times. The entire world is on pause due to the coronavirus outbreak. This has led some U.S. Men’s National Team players to become stuck overseas, unable to travel home.

The USMNT has a decent number of players in the Bundesliga. Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie, and Gio Reyna are the ones who stand out. The latter is only 17 and burst onto the scene this season.

But these are some scary times. We are left waiting to see what happens and doing all we can to stay safe. Now imagine being a teenager overseas all by himself? That can not be fun.

So McKennie reached out to the youngster and let him know that if he needs something Reyna can always get in contact and ask:

"“He knows that if he ever needs anyone to hang out with or just wants to come over and chill, he’s more than welcome. Obviously right now in the circumstances, it’s a little bit hard to do such a thing, but I understand where he’s at right now, because at Dortmund he lives on the facility, and all the kids practically have gone home there. So he’s practically all alone by himself, which is kind of a bummer.”"

We have already seen McKennie and Christian Pulisic bond over Instagram Live so I can only imagine the antics that Reyna and McKennie would be up to in person.

McKennie and Reyna would have had a golden opportunity to build some rapport if soccer was being played. The USMNT had friendlies scheduled during the March international break and the duo were both slated to be apart of the team.

The USMNT will have to bounce back quickly. If the schedule stays the same, World Cup qualifying will start in September. These friendlies would have been a key time to build some chemistry and solidify who will be called upon to play.

There will be a ton of pressure on these guys after the disaster that was the 2018 qualifying cycle. The team can’t just qualify. They need to prove they are the top team in CONCACAF bar Mexico, and by some distance. With all the talent the United States currently boasts, just making the dance doesn’t cut it anymore.

Imagining Reyna, McKennie, Adams, and Pulisic all playing together makes you anxiously await the return of soccer. For now, we are simply waiting. And so are the players. Until that time, all we can do is stay safe and look after one another, just as McKennie, Reyna and Pulisic are.
