Ten through Eight

10. Walker Zimmerman

Defender Walker Zimmerman made a big offseason move to Nashville SC. After establishing himself as LAFC’s go-to center-back, the 26-year-old will be tasked with helping lead another MLS Expansion club as it creates its defensive identity. Zimmerman can really show Gregg Berhalter something with this opportunity. Nashville will need his on-field leadership to help pave the way to a successful season. If he can help guide the club to a decent first season, it should improve his standing in the player pool.

9. Cristian Roldan

The 2019 season was the first time in his career that Cristian Roldan won an MLS title. He was a massive part of the Seattle Sounders’ success. All in all, 2019 was a great year for Roldan, who shone for the USMNT too. He was involved in the Nations League fixtures and was used as a substitute during the Gold Cup. This year, he will want to solidify that place in the squad and will have a terrific opportunity to do so playing in the heart of an excellent Sounders side.

8. Gyasi Zardes

For the most part, it was a decent season in 2019 for striker Gyasi Zardes. The Columbus Crew goalscorer netted 13 goals in 28 appearances. As a result, he was selected for the Gold Cup and Nations League rosters. He did not quite have the same impact with the USMNT, and with Josh Sargent emerging, as well as Giovanni Reyna entering the mix, it is going to be very important for Zardes to have a big season in MLS in 2020 as younger talent continues to develop.
