Tim Weah wasted little time making an impression for his new club Celtic, scoring just 14 minutes in his debut. This and more in the USMNT abroad round-up.

It couldn’t have gone any better for one of Celtic’s newest acquisitions — and U.S. Men’s National Team prospect.

Just a few weeks after joining the Scottish club on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, Tim Weah was on the scoresheet in a cup match. The 18-year-old got his introduction from off the bench in the 69th minute as a substitute. He would then score in the 83rd minute to put Celtic in the driver’s seat with a 3-0 lead.

Celtic will resume normal league play on Wednesday when they play St. Mirren. They will then play Hamilton just three days later on Saturday. We should expect to see Weah back in action this week with the two consecutive matches on the schedule as he looks to forge a starting role for himself in Glasgow.

One of the key reasons why he went on loan was to find regular playing time, so making a fast start to establish himself in Rodgers’ thinking is critical. The development of the USMNT youngster depends on it, and that is exactly what he has done here.

McKennie assist and Adams makes the 18

Weston McKennie was surrounded by rumours this week of a possible move to Liverpool. Despite the news, the young midfielder was unphased as he was instrumental in Schalke’s 2-1 win over Wolfsburg.

Tyler Adams was in the final 18 players available for RB Leipzig’s fixture against Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund. Despite not playing, it is a good sign for the midfielder as first team opportunities appear to be a regular occurrence.

Other Notable Appearances

  • Fellow USMNT player Chrisitan Pulisic entered as a substitute in the 76th minute for Dortmund, who relied on an Alex Witsel goal to claim victory in the first match back from the winter break.
  • Alfredo Morales picked up an assist for Fortuna Dusseldorf in a 2-1 win over Augsburg.
  • The USMNT defenders in the Premier League got a few appearances over the weekend. DeAndre Yedlin played the entire match for Newcastle United as they shutout Cardiff City 3-0.
  • Tim Ream played all 90 minutes for Fulham in a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur and committed a critical error for Spurs’ first goal.
  • Andrija Novakovich played all 90 minutes for Fortuna Sittard in a 5-1 loss in the Dutch Eredivisie.
  • Ethan Horvath got the start in net for Club Brugge but would end up losing 1-0 to Charleroi.
