Ireland international and Dundalk star, Daryl Horgan, could be on the move to Major League Soccer with multiple teams reportedly interested.

According to Goal.com and the Irish Daily Star, “Dundalk star Daryl Horgan is a target for a number of Major League Soccer sides.” Although many MLS fans probably don’t recognize his name, Horgan is one of the top young players in Ireland. He may be looking to follow in Robbie Keane’s footsteps and become the next great Irish player in Major League Soccer.

The Colorado Rapids and the Philadelphia Union are the two MLS clubs that are reportedly interested in Horgan. The forward’s contract is set to expire at the end of the 2016 season. The Irish Premier League season is similar to that of MLS as it ends in October but Dundalk will have a cup match in November.

The Dundalk player has been linked to multiple big name clubs outside of Ireland in the past few months. The teams reportedly interested included Melbourne City of the A-League and Ipswich Town of the English Championship division. The Irish club will want to re-sign one of their best players but interest from abroad may make that hard to accomplish.

More from MLS Multiplex

The 24-year old has recorded nine goals and four assists on the 2016 season. He has helped lead his club to obtaining the league title this year as well as into the final of the FAI Cup. While he has had success domestically, Dundalk have enjoyed success Continental success as well. Dundalk are currently playing in the Europa League group stage which is one of the toughest and most prestigious club competitions in the world.

With the Rapids and Union both linked to the left winger, we could see move come during the winter transfer window in January. There are only two current Irish players in MLS with Kevin Doyle and Robbie Keane. The former plays for Colorado and could be used to lure Daryl stateside.

Both the Rapids and the Union are in need of a goal scoring and that’s exactly what Horgan would provide. Colorado’s tied as the second lowest scoring team in the league this season but they arguably have the best defense and that was helped out with the deal they made for goalkeeper, Tim Howard, earlier this year. On the other hand, Philadelphia are looking to strengthen their squad with talent after acquiring Alejandro Bedoya this past summer. So a move for Daryl would make sense for both clubs.

It will be interesting to see if a move is made for Horgan by an MLS club in the winter. Keep a close eye on the rumors and they may begin to heat up more as the transfer window draws closer. While both Colorado and Philadelphia were singled out, remember that these are only rumors at this point.
