Could Manchester United midfielder and German International, Bastian Schweinsteiger, soon be making the move stateside to MLS?

Manchester United midfielder, Bastian Schweinsteiger, could be leaving the English club as he has fallen out of favor with new manager Jose Mourinho. He has yet to make an appearance with the first team this season in any competition. There has been plenty of speculation surrounding his situation at Manchester United this year and a move to MLS could be in his future.

Schweinsteiger released a statement on Twitter saying that Manchester United will be his last European club. He also said that the historic English club “was the only one which could make me leave Bayern Munich.” Even though he has fallen out of favor with Mourinho, he said that he would be ready to play if the team needs him.

If Manchester United will be Bastian’s last European club, he could soon be making the move to another league. Major League Soccer could be a destination for the German International going forward. The first leagues that come to mind are either the Chinese Super League or MLS.

The 32-year old midfielder is one of the most decorated German footballers of all-time. He is the fourth most capped player for Germany as he has appeared in more than 115 matches. Even though he is in his early thirties, Schweinsteiger still has some years left in his career where he could be a valuable player to a new team.

Bastian spent most of his professional career with Bayern Munich as he made 500 appearances with the club. He recorded 68 goals for Bayern and he won eight Bundesliga titles. He made the move to Manchester United in 2015 but his time in England has been anything but disappointing.

If Schweinsteiger decides to make the move to MLS, he may have to wait until the winter transfer window so that a team could make a move for him. There have been rumors that he may take a buyout with Man U. If that happens, then he might be able to sign with a Major League Soccer club this season as rosters become frozen on September 15th.

The Chicago Fire are at the top of the allocation order for MLS so they could be the team to make a move for the legendary midfielder in the winter. He could also be a target for some new MLS teams like LAFC, Minnesota United FC, or Atlanta United FC as a big name designated player signing. It will be interesting to see if Bastian Schweinsteiger does make the move to the United States in his career.
