The San Jose Earthquakes will tell us everything that we need to know about the team in their next match as they have a chance to jump into a playoff spot.

The San Jose Earthquakes will take on the New England Revolution Wednesday with an opportunity to jump ahead of the Portland Timbers and take hold of the sixth spot in the Western Conference standings.

The Earthquakes had an opportunity to do so against the Dynamo this past Friday but blew their chance so this game is critical for San Jose when you take into account that the Seattle Sounders are now back in the race after winning their last three matches. Seattle sits only one point behind San Jose and two behind Portland in the standings.

San Jose’s match against the Revolution will take place at Avaya Stadium. They will have the support of their fans in an all important match.

The Earthquakes will need their forwards to step up in this match. In their last match against Houston, the Earthquakes took 19 shots but were only able to put one in the back of the net. The Earthquakes should look into switching things up as far as the Wondolowski and Amarikwa partnership goes. The Earthquakes simply haven’t gotten good results from the two. Manager Dominic Kinnear should start looking for a different striker to put up top with Wondolowski.

Recently acquired Henok Goitom could be that replacement but it doesn’t seem likely that Kinnear will make any changes for Wednesday’s match.

The Earthquakes this season have been an average team at best and some could argue that they’ve been a below average squad. With the struggles they’ve had on the road and the attack playing weak this season it is questionable to how the Earthquakes are still in a position to make the MLS playoffs.

If this team wants to be taken seriously then they need to start taking advantage of the opportunities that come upon them.

But even with all the struggles they still have a chance. If this team wants to be taken seriously then they need to start taking advantage of the opportunities that come upon them. This week will be a huge opportunity for them.

With the Earthquakes playing Wednesday and Saturday this week three points in each match would do wonders for the squad. The Sounders and Timbers will face off Saturday so this is the perfect opportunity for the Earthquakes to take charge.

Wednesday’s match will tell us whether the San Jose Earthquakes are a team that will seriously contended or if they are a team that is just going to fall off when the pressure gets high.
