Jurgen Klinsmann has called up Landon Donovan for one final USA match against Ecuador in an international friendly. Donovan has had arguably the most successful USMNT career of any American player, but was disappointingly left off the World Cup roster in Brazil.
On October 10th, he’ll get his swan song before his retirement at the end of the year. “Playing for the U.S. National Team has been a huge part of my career and I’m ecstatic to have the opportunity to play for my country one last time. I’m so grateful to all the fans that have supported me and this game will give me the chance to say thank you to all of them. I look forward to a great evening and I’m thankful to U.S. Soccer for making this happen,” – Donovan to USsoccer.com.
Donovan’s presence will be sorely missed in the MLS as the league’s all-time leading goalscorer. His abilities on the field have given him recognition as one of the most popular athletes in sports. He is the most widely known American soccer player, having played in the English Premier League and Bundesliga along with the MLS.
He’s a superstar, but has remained humble his whole career. He’s inspired millions of young American players, and has given fans some of the most exciting moments in US Soccer history.
