Julian Green Named to Bayern's First Team Squad for US Tour

19 year old USA starlet Julian Green has officially been named to Bayern Munich’s first team squad for the club’s upcoming US tour, which will be concluded by the MLS All-Star game on August 6.

The German-American winger played in one game at the World Cup, scoring on his first touch in Brazil. After much opposition to the inclusion of Green on the roster, US fans and media appear to be behind the youngster as the future face of US Soccer. Green, who was born in Tampa to an American serviceman father and German mother, made his first senior team appearance last season in a Champions League match against CSKA Moscow. He also scored 15 goals in 23 appearances for Bayern Munich II last season.

It appears as if Pep Guardiola wants to keep Julian Green in Munich this upcoming season, saying via a conference call “first idea is that he’s going to stay for the rest of the season.” Guardiola also went on to say that Green would “play as much as possible” during Bayern’s summer tour in the States. The 2013 champions of Europe will play Chivas Guadalajara from RedBull Arena on July 31st before facing the MLS All-Stars on August 6th.
